Apartment Review for New Colony - Fort Collins, CO

I have lived here for a few months now and have to say you do get what you pay for... low rent and not a very wonderful apartment. It is not horrible, but I am already browsing for a new place for when my lease is done. At first I thought it was cozy, but the apartments are very cold & small. My gas bill has gone up every month, almost $100. I also do not even comprehend how two adults could possibly live in these units, they are pretty tight quarters, although I do know a family of four who lives here and I guess they like it. ??? The maintenance staff is fast & courteous, but they have also been to my apt. about 7 times for the same plumbing issues in my apartment. The parking is not bad at all and the location is great, about half way between Old Town and the South side of town. They are however very deceptive to get you in here. The website has beautiful pictures, but believe me I took my child to the playground one time only to find broken glass everywhere and needless to say we only play at the REAL park now. Also after reading the not so great reviews I Called and asked and the receptionist (of course) shot down all the "bad" things people said, which are actually mainly true. Noise is not a huge issue, but the walls are pretty thin. You can hear the neighbor's bathroom fan or garbage disposal when it runs. Overall, I am not very impressed and while the rent is cheap, my gas bill is ridiculous and its freezing cold in here. The overall maintenance of the buildings are pretty shotty. They are built in the 70's & the closer you look the more run down things are. There are cracks in the ceilings, no ceiling light in the living room so you have to get a large lamp to really be able to see, the paint is chipped everywhere or bubbly, the doors are all scratched up in every room. I guess if you are a college student with low expectations or on a tight budget this place is ok, but I consider it transitional and I am definitely going to move elsewhere when my lease is up. I would rather put that $100/month I spend on a gas bill into a nicer place to live.
