Apartment Review for New Colony - Fort Collins, CO

I moved into this place because the house I was renting was being sold. It was August and being a college town, it's the worst time to look for a good apartment. So after many dead ends I decided on a 2 bedroom at New Colony. What a regret. First off the managment seems nice at first. The deposit is cheap. What really made me mad was a day after I signed my lease, they ran a special on 2 bedrooms for 10$ less than I just signed for. As far as appearances go, it seems ok at first glance but after 1 month you notice that it really sucks. All units are garden level. It basically looks like a huge motel complex. The walls are all cinder blocks so you can't hardly hang anything. The windows are single pane aluminum pieces of broken junk. The kitchen cabinet doors and drawers are about ready to fall apart. All closet doors are dented and flimsy. No dishwasher. You do get free basic cable though and water/trash. Big deal. You'll be worse off once you get your first gas bill in January. I kept my water heater on medium, never raised my thermostat above 68 when I was home and my first bill was over $160. Cold air comes in from everywhere unless you want to put plastic on every opening like you're in a bubble. The washer/dryer rooms are almost pointless to use even if one is close to you.

THE KICKER: 6 months into my 1 year lease they sent a letter asking me to commit to another lease by 4/15/06. If I did they would only raise my rent $20 to $579/mo., stating that I was a valued tenant. If I did not commit by then, a new lease would be $640/ mo.!!! The best part is that they have had a big green banner near the entrance for specials on 2 bedrooms for $569/ mo. What a scam.

Don't even think about renting here. You'll regret it like me. I can't wait to get out of here in a few months. I'd pay a $1000 deposit for anything just to not be here.
