Apartment Review
Ready to Leave

I'm entering the last month of my year-long lease at Landmark Apartments. While it's served the basic purpose that any apartment should, there are definitely other options in town where you could get more for your money. Apartments: Very outdated. Old, scuffed, scratched, dented, lifting, dirty linoleum in the kitchen/foyer/bathrooms. Very old appliances, cracked window in my living room, dented baseboard heaters, a very old (and very expensive to run) A/C unit on the opposite side of the apt from the bedrooms, which doesn't make much sense to me. Paper-thin walls, I could hear everything my neighbors did. My upstairs neighbor had cats and I could hear the cats walking around up there, and my downstairs neighbor smoked and my apartment filled with smoke because of it on several occasions. However, the floor plans in the two-bedroom units are fantastic and definitely have a lot of potential if a little updating could just be done, particularly in the kitchens. Warning: I was told that I was getting a "newly renovated" apartment, but this definitely hasn't been touched in years. Management: This was where I ran in to the biggest problem during my stay here. I work and go to school and am never at home during the day on weekdays. The office opened after I left and closed before I got home every day, so requesting work orders, receiving UPS packages, and getting questions answered was next to impossible for me. They are apparently only open on Saturdays from 10-2 "by appointment", but I could usually find somebody there (however, the property manager was never there) within that time frame regardless of whether I made an appointment or not. Convenience: I had to drop off a rent check until a few months ago, when they finally got an online rent payment site up for the tenants. While they gave you options to perform other tasks on the site (request work orders, for example) most of these things were dead links and wouldn't do anything. At least I was able to pay my rent on it for the last 5 months with no problems, and that way you can see an itemized rent bill. Pool: Cold and small. It's past Memorial Day now and it's still not open. They don't heat it and last summer I couldn't even bear to get in it until August. Security: Good. Outside is well lit and I never felt unsafe walking through the complex at night. Parking: adequate, I only had trouble finding a spot a handful of times during my year here. However, I was in a building with ample parking around it, and in that area not all buildings are created equal here. In a nutshell, I have enjoyed my time here but it's not hard to find something much better for about the same price.
